You guys do a great job of explaining very well the pros and also, the cons of solid state batteries. For what's it's worth, Solid State is the way to go. However, let's not forget the cleanliness and power of Fuel Cells and green Hydrogen. Let the games begin! Thanks again for a very informative video. BB

Game changer for most light passenger cars and SUV's that don't have to haul heavy loads, assuming they can actually bring them into mass production. If/when Toyota actually make it happen, I will buy 1, and definitely will be investing in whichever company does the best job of installing their charging stations across the US. Whether or not the US power grid can handle the additional demands of millions of rechargeable cars is a whole nother question to be figured out.

No one is admitting that the fantasy that Mankind was adversely modifying the actual Climate was just that, a vile and horrible fantasy, useful, mainly to totalitarian-minded political power-grabbers to use so as to frighten populations into giving up their Freedom and Independence to them on the promise of being 'saved', somehow.

Batteries are still very inefficient in cold weather. They must also use much of their reserves to maintain cabin heat. Cabin heat, cold weather, headlight power drain all serve to limit driving range. Longer and more frequent stops for recharging. Battery efficiency loss with age is another problem. This results in rapid loss of value for used EV. Electric vehicles are also not efficient in larger vehicles because of the additional weight of the batteries required to power the heavier vehicle. These are only some of the many issues with electric vehicles. There are also many environmental issues as well, but that’s a subject for another day.

And where's the electricity, to charge these batteries, going to come from? Solar? Windmills? - Not a chance, do the numbers. These renewables wouldn't even give 5% of the requirement, if we all drive electric cars. Charge from 0-100% in 10 minutes? According to my calculations, that's going to equate to 2000v at about 30 amps. (60,000 watts). If you want to be close to that kind of power, good luck to you. I'd run a mile away from a car receiving that kind of electrical flow.

The information about 54% electric car sales in Norway in 2020 is not accurate. It would not be possible without massive state support for electric car buyers and big taxation to cars with combustion engines. It is possible because Norway is weatlhy country. Why not just plug in hybrid below 70 or 80km using battery, long distance or emergency using gas? big battery so heavy, it is a big waste of energy. Also no need to build extra charging facilities just slow charge home every night to extend lifespan of your battery.

What is the purpose of this video because it is not scientific and the production method seems to gloss over the huge issues. If you is good, then watch again and pause on each graph whilst asking if it is relevant, evidential or just marketing fluff.

What I would like to see come with this technology is a for lack of a better term a renaissance in automotive design and culture Muscle cars land yachts and large family station wagons that were killed off in the 1970s could (on paper) be reintroduced with electric powertrains They wouldn’t burn gasoline so there should be no complaints from environmentalists If Tesla can build a semi that runs on batteries it’s pretty clear that you can build an electric version of an old Cadillac Eldorado or Oldsmobile custom cruiser And the electric powertrain can more than likely create an awesome electric muscle car like the Pontiac GTO or Ford Gran Torino It’s something to think about when it comes to EVs Electric cars don’t always have to be futuristic spaceships They could bring back some of automotive histories greatest icons Heck this has actually happened with GMCs electric hummer

People are you losing your minds .we have a power grid in the US that is now antiquated and collapsing as we speak ,if you took only half of the cars and converted into electric it would totally disrupt and destroy the electric grid .now add to that what will be an increasing solar flare cycle we know it’s coming to wipe out the whole grid., for months you go nowhere with electric cars I haven’t even mentioned the unintended consequences of having an accident .especially at high-speed batteries explode new or old the amount of energy that is stored in these batters is more power than is that at your street transformer hanging on the pole outside your house .which supplies energy to quite a few houses that’s because the ability to take a 3000 pound vehicle and move it at 60 miles an hour for two or three hours ,requires huge amount of storage .if you don’t think they’ll blow up take a lithium battery or any battery for that matter .Point a flame at it butane or propane torch it will explode you notice you don’t see these cars in stock car races where crashes are happening all the time .why because they will explode now introduce flash flooding ,Your car is traveling at a high rate of speed being carried by the water slams into something under water fire hydrant ,concrete ,whatever .now what you may have walked away from very wet you will be electrocuted .and this has already happened in the 1990s it’s Gm removed the volt from the market and the people who had those cars they took the cars away from them .do some research. The other danger is the one they say you have already with your phone .it’s electromagnetic radiation you can get it from living too close to high tension wires .it is known to be a carcinogen ,now you put your body on top of a battery that is radiating electromagnetic energy intensely through your body .you must consider the unintended consequences.

I wishes wasn't the case, but as long as Tesla exists, any other technology in electric cars will b obsolete. I've got a bad feeling that Tesla will create a battery technology that will make solid state batteries obsolete before they r released 2 the public (and if u think that's insane, they're the same company who made an all-electric, bulletproof truck 4 a reasonable price), and then Elon will b laughing in everyone's face as they sell more Teslas

This is meant to be such a 'breakthrough' technology yet this new battery only offers 500km (310mi) range maximum - half as much as most basic-standard diesel/hybrid diesel vehicles today. Charge times of 15 minutes which is still 15X longer in duration than I.C. engines. Dendrite formation that degrades the battery over time will be another problem much like its Lithium ion counterpart - which is a disappointment as it was initially promised that this problem was to be eradicated with solid-state. Also it STILL will have issues performing in cold climates like its Lithium ion counterpart. If this is what we're meant to anticipate in 5 years, that is very underwhelming at best.

Its all very good to say that Norway now sells more electric cars than other fuel types. Norway is slightly larger than Victoria, the smallest mainland state in Australia. So, travel within that country in a vehicle that has a 800 Km range in a no brainer. Now lets look at the elephant in the room. Australia, (and some other large sparsely populated countries). Australia has road travel distances that just don't make sense to European's, Asian's or American's yet many here think nothing of a road trip from say Adelaide to Sydney (1400 Km/870 miles) with one over night stop or Sydney to Brisbane (900 Km/ 560 miles) without stop. And, these trips don't even involve any real outback travel. What about a trip to Alice Springs (less than 3000km from any mainland capital). This trip can be comfortably traveled from Adelaide (1500km/930 miles) in 2 days or less with little planning. Now lets look at a Tesla Model 3 Long Range with a claimed range of approx. 650km. In real world terms this is, according to some sources, as low as 460 Km in good conditions. Now this trip does include some outback travel (i.e. very remote, no super chargers out here). It does have 22Kw chargers in some locations (Port Augusta, Cooper Pedy) but you will still need to add at least 280 km of charge somewhere with questionable power supplies from a standard wall plug and the portable charger. According to Tesla a standard wall plug can add 10 km of range per hour from the portable charger i.e. we have just added 28 hours of down time to the trip in places that are little more than a roadhouse in the middle of the desert. Don't forget that this is in SA desert where temperatures regularly exceed 40C in summer and can exceed 30C in winter., so no walkabouts (sight seeing on foot) unless you are well prepared and know the area. These are not tourist hotspots either, so your unlikely to have any organised tours available. So now a 2 day trip becomes at least 5 days with a minimum of two stops doing nothing but watch your car recharge. Now I know the average buyer of an EV is probably not considering driving to Alice Springs or anywhere else that remote but the reality is that EV's are great in situations where your travel in not going to exceed the average half range trip away from a high capacity charger but less suitable for long distance travel in remote areas. The info-structure costs to solve this problem in places like Australia (except maybe the east coast) just doesn't stake up. The Solid State Battery may be a step closer to solving this problem but unless you can make the trip above in the same time as a vehicle with an internal combustion engine fitted with a standard fuel tank you will be hard pressed to convince the average person in places like Australia that the additional cost of the vehicle, plus info-structure costs are worth it.

I want the new Dacia Spring. It will cost roughly €15.000 "in store" comes fall, will run about 200 km on a charge, and do exactly what I need from a car - handle my daily commutes, about 70 km a day. "Oh no, you need 500 km range in a car!" I hear the the skeptics say. Do I? Do you? If you buy a new electric car that cost you perhaps only 1/3 of a "cheap" competitor, you got roughly €30.000 to spend on taxi, travel, leisure. Need 500+ km range? Really? Well, if you got a cottage up in the mountains perhaps you do. I don't, and most of us do not. Low cost/shorter range beats expensive/long range every time from a pragmatic users standpoint. Every single time.

why do they need so many expensive unreliable batteries? lithium ion batteries suck. why cant they use power transformers, diodes and/or supercapacitors in a voltage multiplier configuration connected from 1 aluminum ion or lead acid car battery instead. if only i was rich and owned these corporations i'd show them how its supposed to be done.

don't expect revolution in phone battery life... you will get more mAph but also more powerful CPU to run less optimized (or not optimized at all code... ;)

I’ve been saying for the past 10 years or more, why can’t they use two batteries, and like the Dinamo that normally charges the battery... In this case when a battery is in service, the other is being charged by the dynamo??? I just cannot understand why this simple concept is not being used!!!

I work in digital infrastructure. On UPS and battery pack up systems for data centers, stores etc. Lithium batteries are very volatile and have a life of 5 years. So pretty much every 5+ years you will have to replace your batteries. At 100,000 miles you better sell your electric car if your smart.

I have researched myself these battery techs myself I found that the biggest problem is the fomation of dendrites which a common problem in all battery technologies which limits the life span of all batteries! It is like like free radicals in the human body so unless you manufuactare an anti-oxident for batteries the problem is unsolvable that easaly!!!

Electric is happening. My first will be when I get my Tesla Cybertruck. I wanted to get a Type S back when it first hit, but it wasn't in my cards. Go EV or AEV and keep breathing life into this world. peace
